Thematic analysis of data from interviews (face-to-face and telephone) and focus group discussion ascertained core meanings. Findings reveal (1) push factors include the desire to give something back to society and the desire for self-exploration, (2) pull factors include learning about other social classes and the enticement of a challenge. The perceived benefits were greater self-confidence and enhanced communication, networking, and presentation skills.
